This week has been another busy time, with so many activities to enjoy.  As requested last week, we have made our own pizza with toppings such as sweetcorn, salami and pepper to chose from.  These all looked delicious and we hope that they children enjoyed eating them.

We have used red paper hearts to create Poppy’s for Remembrance Sunday.  We have talked about saying “Thank You” to the soldiers who have helped to keep us safe.  On Friday, at 11am the children watched a special short animation to music whilst the rest of the school held a silence in the school playground.

We were lucky enough to be able to spend time in the school library.  We had lots of adult to share stories with, a rhyme time and to finish the session we were treated to singing by some Celts and Romans (Ash Base).  We look forward to this being a regular part of our timetable.

As part of our focus text, we learned about the festival of Diwali.  We heard a story about a little girl celebrating with her family.  The children then used salt dough to make their own Diva (candle holder) which were then painted in beautiful colours.

In addition, we have used paper shapes, paint, collage and best of all glitter to make Rangoli patterns.  This has been used to support language around shape names and colour.

We continue to introduce our phonics scheme – “Unlocking Letters and Sounds” by playing the game “Noisy Neighbour”.   This encourages the children to distinguish between different sounds such as two teaspoons banged together and a pot of sprinkles being shaken.  We have as always enjoyed playing our listening games – this week we listened to animal sounds and tried to guess which animal made the noise. 

Personal development is as always, a key focus, and this includes a selection of texts – such as “Dogs Don’t Do Ballet” and “Love makes a Family”.   It has been fantastic to see how resilient the children have been – so many can now put on their own coat.  Well done everyone!
