King Charles III’s coronation Celebrations

Full CalendarSchool Events

This event will take place between 2:30pm and 3:00pm on 05/05/2023

King Charles III’s coronation is taking place on Saturday 6th May and we intend to celebrate this momentous event with a day of special activities on Friday 5th May.

In the morning we will be learning about The Coronation of King Charles III; the children will learn about what a coronation is and will explore some of the similarities and differences between the coronation of Queen Elizabeth II and King Charles III. We will be making flags, bunting and crowns fit for a king! During a library session, the children will have an opportunity to enjoy a royal display of books all about the king and the coronation.

In light of the fact that we are holding our Potted Sports event the day before, we have amended our plans slightly for the afternoon. We will be holding a ‘Coronation Pub Quiz’ in the afternoon where children will have squash, nibbles (crisps) and are welcome to bring in a sweet treat to enjoy. We ask that children do not bring any nuts or nut-based products into school. We invite family members onsite (via the main gate) at 2:30pm to watch their child(ren) parade onto the playground and come together as a school to sing the songs they have been practising. Please feel free to join in the fun by bringing your flags to wave in celebration.  All children will return back to their classrooms. After collecting their belongings, please collect your child as usual.

To make this day even more special, we are inviting children to wear the colours of the Union Jack – red, white and blue or party clothes fit for a royal ball! Please ensure children wear sensible shoes.

A huge thank you to Friends of Verwood for helping us to make this a great experience by providing craft materials and such high-quality books for the children to enjoy.

We appreciate that we have invited you to attend two consecutive events but hope that a family member can join us to share in the children’s finale to what we hope will be a memorable day.
