Joke of the Week! – Knock, knock? Who’s there? Knock, Knock. Knock, knock who? Knock, knock

The children have immersed themselves in their new topic ‘Once Upon a Time’. We have been focusing on the story of the Three Little Pigs in English and we created our own WANTED posters for the Big Bad Wolf.

In Maths, we have been recapping arithmetic and learning all about 2D shapes.

A big thank you to all of the mums and dads that attended the ‘Share a Story’ session on Friday. It was wonderful to see such a love for reading shared between both children and parents.

We have also been getting ready for Easter with an Easter Trail and the children went home Friday with a little chocolate egg as gift from the Friends of Verwood. We hope you all have a wonderful, restful Easter break and we look forward to welcoming the children back on Monday 25^th April.

The children have wowed us with their diary writing. They have taken on the role of Florence Nightingale and written about all the changes that they have made to hospitals, from providing the injured soldiers with clean beds to chasing away lurking rats!

In Maths, we have been learning all about 2D shapes and their properties. We have even looked at lines of symmetry and we’ve noticed that some shapes don’t have any!

On Friday, we enjoyed a sunny (but chilly!) walk up to the church for our Easter Church Service. The children showed so many of our school values both on the walk up and during the service; patience, respect, responsibility, peace to name a few. Thank you to the parents who supported us with this visit.

Joke of the Week! – Why did the cow cross over the road? To go to the moooo-vies!

The children have really enjoyed learning more about Florence Nightingale in history this week and have really impressed us with their knowledge of how she impacted nursing and hospitals. They used this knowledge to help them to write some amazing descriptive sentences about what they would have seen if they were Florence walking into one of the hospitals in 1855. Braxton wrote ‘I could see bottles and old food on the dirty, disgusting floors’. What a great sentence!

We have also been enjoying our maths topic this week all about money. The children have shown great resilience when identifying and comparing amounts of money. It has also been British Science Week and the children have been busy creating bar charts and posters about how we can grow a more eco friendly community. These will be displayed in school.

Next week we are looking forward to learning more about Florence Nightingale and writing our Florence Diary Entries.

We also learnt how to make things move in computing this week and it was fun! (Emma).

During our R day, we focused on Reciprocity. Can you remember what being reciprocal means? How would you show reciprocity?

On Thursday, we immersed ourselves in books! The children looked wonderful in their book day costumes and enjoyed activities from sharing books with Sycamore to taking part in a World Book Day Parade! The children also enjoyed listening to stories read by Miss North and Mrs Steel.

The children have been getting very excited about our new topic ‘London – Our Capital City!’. We spent some time reflecting on what we already know and what we want to learn through this topic. The children are really excited to learn all about the Great Fire of London!

In Literacy, we read ‘Vlad and the Great Fire of London’. We drew a story map to help us retell the story and wrote questions that we’d like to ask Vlad and Boxton.

In Maths, the children have been using their resources to subtract. They been making links between subtracting ones and subtracting 10s and have been practising their reasoning skills!

On Friday it was dare to be different day and the children attended school wearing a range of ‘different’ things – we even had funny coloured hair!

We are all looking forward to a rest over half term but are really excited for our trip to Marwell Zoo after half term!
