At Verwood First School and Nursery, we believe that Physical Education provides children with lifelong values and social skills such as teamwork, respect, perseverance and self-discipline, equipping children with skills to become lifelong learners.
High quality Physical Education develops pupils’ physical literacy and self-confidence, and their ability to apply these when performing a range of activities. It provides opportunities for pupils to be creative, competitive, co-operative and face challenges individually, in groups and as part of a team. PE also promotes positive attitudes towards physical activity and in turn, promote healthy, active lifestyles. Through the teaching of PE we aim to provide the children with a range of opportunities, which enable them to explore different types of physical activity, including dance, games, athletics, gymnastics and large apparatus. We also provide opportunities to integrate physical activity into the curriculum with a weekly mile and wake and shake.
